Hi friends! I’m back with part 2 of our weekend adventures because apparently I took too many photos this weekend to fit them all into one post! Part 1 featured more cherry blossom running photos and a delicious dinner in case you missed it. 😉

On Sunday, Matt and I had the day free and decided to take ourselves on a little hiking adventure.

We were considering hiking Old Rag (our fave – our engagement even happened there!), but decided in the end to mix it up and try something new. Enter: Sky Meadows State Park!

Sky Meadows is in Delaplane, Virginia, about an hour ish outside DC. It had been recommended to us recently by friends so we were excited to check it out!

It was a cloudy day but the temperature was nice for hiking – not too hot, not too cold. Juuuuust right. :)

We started our hike around noon and had packed lunch and some snacks to enjoy while on the trail. About an hour in we stopped for a food break – avocado toast is even more delicious with bacon on top, in case you were wondering. 😉

I also packed a ton of carrots and celery, two apples, and some almond butter for us to snack on (we ended up eating most of the veggies/fruit but saving the almond butter for another day).

And we also polished off the last of my recent batch of Oatmeal Raisin Energy Bites!

Apparently all that hiking made us hungry. :)

We did a nice big loop of all the outer trails in the park (including some of the Appalachian Trail, which is always fun) and ended up covering a hilly 8 miles. Whew – our legs were tired!

So fun to spend the day together getting some fresh air. Hiking is always my happy place. :)

We arrived home in time for a later dinner and threw together our last Blue Apron of the week: a really good chicken and potato stew with swiss chard. Perfect for a cold and rainy night!

Matt doctored up the garlic toast with some grated cheese, too. :)

Such a fun and full weekend, although it went too quickly as always. :) I’m already looking forward to next weekend and to the big Cherry Blossom 10 Miler adventures!

What’s your favorite hiking food? I usually bring a lot of snack ball type things (like my tart cherry pie snack balls), or my 5 minute no bake peanut butter granola bars. Plus cheese, crackers, and cut up veggies! The avocado and bacon toast will definitely happen again, though – that was so good!
