Workout Sunrises

It’s been a week of beautiful sunrises. This is basically what gets me out of bed for morning workouts. Image may be NSFW.

I hit up a 6 a.m. CrossFit class yesterday, and when I emerged shortly after 7 I was treated with that beautiful view. As for CrossFit, we had a good workout!

After our warm up, we worked on front squats – I can’t do them very well thanks to mobility issues (I can’t get my elbows up so they kill my wrists) so I used a heavy kettlebell (held in a goblet squat position) and did squats with that instead! We had two WODs – first, pictured above, was “Grace” – 30 clean & jerks in a row for time. I kept the weight light but was still huffing and puffing by the end! Our second WOD was double unders (or 3 times the reps if normal jump roping, like I was) and situps. Reps: 50-40-30-20-10 – meaning you do 50 double unders (or 150 normal jump ropes), then 50 situps, then 40 double unders (or 120 normal), then 40 situps, etc. Those situps were tough – that was a lot!

As for this morning’s workout, Chelsea and I were treated to a lovely sunrise at the end of our track workout. Beautiful progression!

In between checking out the sky, we squeezed in a little speedwork. Image may be NSFW.

We did about .75 miles of jogging to warm up, then did 8 laps of sprint the straights, jog the curves with two 400s thrown in the middle. We also switched directions halfway through and took a couple walk/water breaks around the 400’s. To cool down, 2 laps (0.5 miles) of jogging. 4 miles total!

The pace includes our jogging warm up and cool down and the rest of the workout, so a pretty good average pace considering!

I have a busy day – a few AnneTheRD meetings and I really need to buckle down and make some more progress on the sports nutrition e-book I’m working on with Jason. Better get to it – have a good one, friends! I’ll be back tomorrow to share some of this week’s eats – including a new packed lunch idea. Image may be NSFW.

What’s the most gorgeous sunrise or sunset you’ve ever seen? Mine was probably a sunset on the beach in Byron Bay, Australia when I was studying abroad. I have never seen anything so amazing and vibrant! That, and the sunsets/sunrises in the outback in Australia – incredible!
