Find a fANNEtastic Running Buddy!

Hello from the train to NYC! I’m headed up for a quick trip to speak on a blogger panel at a Fitness Magazine Meet & Tweet event tomorrow. I’m honored to have been asked! Will I see any of you guys there, I hope? :) You can see what I’m up to on Instagram and Twitter, as always, and follow #FitBlogNYC for event-specific social shares.

I was planning to share my morning track workout adventures in today’s post, but Chelsea and I ended up rain checking! The weather was calling for a big storm and I didn’t sleep that well last night, so I was totally fine with sleeping in instead. Unplanned rest day = necessary. That just means I’ll be fresh and ready to get back after it tomorrow. :)

While we’re on the topic of running and running buddies, I got an email from a reader named Rachel the other day in search of a running buddy, and asking if there was a way to connect you guys with each other. Here’s what she said:

I figure that lots of your readers must be runners too, and if they like your blog, they’re probably nice, friendly people…

That got me to thinking: Maybe some of your readers would enjoy meeting up with one another for group runs in their home cities. There are lots of running clubs but it’s tough to find a group that’s around my age (late 20s) and not too serious or competitive. I can imagine that some of your readers feel the same way. And I feel like fans of your blog must be the kind of people I’d like to run with!

I’ve actually gotten comments along these lines before, especially when I write about how much running buddies have helped me to run faster and farther and enjoy running a lot more. It seems that many of you would love to run with other people, but aren’t sure how to find other runners that are a good fit, or that live near you! I have tossed around the idea before about having readers comment with where they are and see if people can find each other, but that seemed complicated and I wasn’t sure people would want to share private name/location/email information in my public comment section.

After a few emails back and forth with Rachel, we had a good idea – a private “fANNEtastic Running Buddies” Facebook group! Readers who are interested in finding running buddies can join the group and post their location and general pace/distance preferences, and if anyone else in the group is nearby and similar, they can meet up.

So – I hope some of you guys will join the group (click here to request to join the group) and if you do, that you will find some new best friends. Because there’s nothing quite like a running buddy, is there? :)

Happy running, and thank you for sharing in my corner of the blog world. I’m glad you’re here. :)
