An Active Saturday

Hi, friends, and happy Veteran’s Day. Please take a moment today to thank a veteran you know!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Mine was great – beautiful weather, lots of friend time, and lots of activity. Instead of doing one longer run (I had an 8 miler on the docket for Sunday), I did two shorter runs, starting with a 3.5 miler on Saturday morning with my college buddy Turner. She was in town for a conference and stayed with us over the weekend. Fun!

We ran early and had the trails almost to ourselves. It was cold but lovely out!

It was colder out than on Friday morning (check out my “How to Dress For Cold Weather Running” post if you missed it!), so I dressed in layers. I wore basic black capris, plus a black lightweight wicking shirt, and over it, this fun mesh “Run Happy” shirt I received a few months ago from my friends at Brooks.

Up until this point, I’ve worn the mesh shirt over black or white tank tops, but it is super stretchy and worked well over the long sleeved shirt, too. An added bonus is that the black shirt I had on (a super old one from EMS) tends to ride up, but the pink shirt kept it in place. Sweet!

We had a nice run and the miles were done before we knew it.

After the run, Turner headed off to her conference and I had some food, changed, and headed to yoga with my friends Sarah and Chrissy, which was my original workout plan of the day.

We hit up STROGA in Adams Morgan. I hadn’t been there in ages, so it was nice to be back. This studio is home to the most gorgeous yoga space in the area – the classes take place in this stunning ballroom!

We hit a 1 hour 15 minute vinyasa flow. It was a basic and not all that challenging class, which was what I was in the mood for. Felt good to stretch out!

After yoga, we got down business: brunch. The three of us headed to nearby Mintwood Place. I’d never been there before. What a cute spot!

We even snagged a sunny and cozy window seat.

I had the Scottish egg, which was basically a poached egg wrapped in sausage and fried. You only live once, right? It was served on a squash puree. So creative and delicious!

The rest of Saturday was spent with Matt and some friends cheering on Syracuse (where Matt went to school) at the Syracuse v. Maryland football game. It got chilly FAST but it was fun to see a D1 football game – my first, I think, since I was lame and never made it to one at UNC while I was in grad school there!

When we got back, we headed to dinner at Il Radicchio, one of our local favorites, with Turner. Such a fun day!

I’ll be back to share our Sunday adventures. Have a great day!
