Hello and happy Friday! I’m loving reading all your comments on my long training run post from yesterday – keep them coming! Always nice to hear that I’m not alone in doing all these crazy long runs. Image may be NSFW.

I spent some time after the run yesterday bonding with my foam roller – what a lifesaver this is anytime I’m training for a longer race. I highly recommend you pick one up if you don’t have one!

This morning, I continued the recovery process with a swim! I love swimming the day after a long run – the water pressure feels great on my legs and the lack of impact is nice for sore joints. I have a 20 visit pass to a local indoor community swimming pool and try to go at least twice a month just to mix things up. I usually swim for 30 to 45 minutes depending how energized I’m feeling, and alternate between freestyle, breaststroke, and backstroke. I don’t count laps – just zone out, alternate between the strokes, and rest when I feel like it. It works for me!

It was nice to be in the pool this morning, even though I was indoors (oh, how I miss the outdoor lap pool at UNC I had access to when I was in grad school there!), because today is one of those completely disgustingly humid days here in DC. The only thing today is good for is frozen icy things, which meant it was the perfect time to try out this fun new healthy frozen dessert maker that my friends at DOLE sent me to try out: Yonanas! {love that name!}

Have you guys ever tried the “banana soft serve” that the blog world made famous a few years ago? All it is is blended frozen bananas – they turn into a lovely soft serve-esque consistency and are a fun and healthy dessert alternative, but if you don’t have a blender that’s hardcore enough to handle it (e.g. a Vitamix), then you might be out of luck. So here’s a way you can enjoy banana soft serve without a really expensive blender – this Yonanas machine!
For my maiden voyage with Yonanas, I decided to do a mixture of frozen banana and frozen strawberries. It was really easy to use – you just put the fruit in the top and then use a plastic wand type thing to push the fruit down. If you have kids, this would be a BIG hit.

And behold! Strawberry banana “ice cream” – yum! It didn’t come out quite as smooth as the photo, but I was still impressed. Tasted good, too!
The machine came with a recipe booklet and there were some really creative and fun ideas in it – check this out – Chardonnay soft serve?! Sign me up! This would be so fun for a summer happy hour party.

This pumpkin pie soft serve sounded awesome, too. This is next on the list… after the Chardonnay. Image may be NSFW.
