Now that the weather is getting really hot in DC, I’ve found myself craving smoothies again. But here’s the problem – I’ve just come back from an early a.m. run., and I want caffeine, but I also need to refuel. What to do? Introducing my new favorite: Chocolate Cherry Espresso Smoothie.
I dreamed up this creation last week and have been enjoying it ever since. The star is this unsweetened chocolate almondmilk from Almond Breeze!
And, of course, the espresso. We got this Nespresso Pixie espresso machine for our wedding last fall and I’ve been obsessed ever since.
A few seconds in the blender later, and voila! Caffeine and recovery nutrients, all in one smoothie. I’ve heard that cherries help decrease inflammation – perfect for after a run! You can also add protein powder to this smoothie for extra staying power, or pair it with a piece of toast with some almond butter. I <3 almonds in all forms.
Chocolate Cherry Espresso Smoothie
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Looking for a way to combine your breakfast and your morning cup of coffee? Look no farther. Wake up and fuel up, all in one cup!
Ingredients (1 smoothie)
- 1 very ripe banana
- 1 shot espresso
- 1/2 C frozen (or fresh & pitted) cherries
- 1 C unsweetened chocolate Almond Breeze almondmilk
- Ice
Instructions
Throw all ingredients into a blender, blend, and enjoy!
Oh and yes, I totally put sliced banana on the cup rim to make it look cuter. I’m pretty sure food that looks pretty tastes better. Am I right?
What’s your favorite smoothie combination? Here are a few of my other favorites:
- {All That’s Missing is the} Tropical Island Smoothie
- Banana & Spinach Smoothie (sounds gross but is AWESOME!)
- Hidden Veggie Cherry Lemon Smoothie
