To PR or not to PR?

Morning, friends!

I got my Thursday started with the usual – a 4.4-ish mile run with my girl Elle!

We met up at 6:30 a.m. and ran our normal hilly loop – it felt great to get out there! I was out late last night (I went to dinner and to see “Bring It On: The Musical” with some friends – SO entertaining!) and almost considering cancelling on the run this morning, but I knew I would be bummed if I did because I won’t have a chance to work out later today. So glad I didn’t bail, as I knew I would be!

Splits:

  • Mile 1: 9:57 (ridonk endless hill)
  • Mile 2: 9:12
  • Mile 3: 8:25 (hooray downhill!)
  • Mile 4: 8:47

We ran the first super long endless hill a bit slower than usual, but it’s all good. Great run! We chatted away the whole time, as per usual.

Speaking of running – I’m running the Tarheel 10 Miler on Saturday morning!

The Tarheel 10 Miler is a race that everyone said I should do before leaving Chapel Hill – it starts and ends on campus in Keenan Stadium and winds all through campus and the surrounding areas. It’s supposed to be a fun but VERY hilly race. Like, the race course looks like a blanket being shaken out. Given that, I’m debating if I should try to PR or just have fun, enjoy the course and Chapel Hill, and not worry about time. As you know, I just set a new PR at the Tobacco Road Half Marathon a few weeks ago (average pace: 8:20 min/miles), but that race was mostly flat. However – my current 10 miler PR is really old – it’s 1:28:27 (average pace: 8:51 min/miles) from the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler back in April 2010. I haven’t done a 10 miler since, and clearly I’ve gotten faster, which is pretty awesome to see – I feel like speed happens so subtly you don’t really realize it until you look back at your old race times and are like… whoa! How did that happen?! Image may be NSFW.

Anyway – what do you guys think? To PR or not to PR? I feel like I should just go for it, even with all the hills… I’m in good running shape right now and even though the Tobacco Road Half Marathon was flat, I still averaged 30 seconds faster per mile in that race AND ran 3 miles farther. So… yeah. Thoughts?

Time to race off to school – I have a presentation to give this morning! But before I go – please go check out my guest post on DailySpark from earlier this week: Fast, Fit, and Fabulous Breakfast Ideas. It may make you hungry. Image may be NSFW.
